Subaru's Urban Assault... huh huh, she said Ass...

Apparently the Subaru Urban Assault (cause Subaru is synonymous with assaulting urbans, my station wagon will MANGLE your overpriced Hummer!) Race is coming on in to San Diego on September 23. Check out the site. It’s more than just a bike race, it’s also an obstacle course, a brain challenge and a day of fun! (I don’t just blog, I write really quick and catchy copy!)

On “obstacles”:

This is what the race is famous for! Teams must complete challenges at each checkpoint. These will be physical and mental challenges that will take 5 minutes on average per checkpoint. They may include adult big wheels, obstacles on foot, scooters, BMX bikes, slip N slides, bouncy balls, ropes, kayaks, balance, or other craziness. When planning obstacles, we take into account people who have fear of water, heights, speed, knee and back injuries. You can always sit out an obstacle and take a time penalty.

If you’re super interested in jumping in and participating you might want to contact this guy, he’s looking for a partner, seriously, no funny stuff… well maybe a little funny stuff. (via craigslist).

San Diego Music Awards: Vote Transfer!

We are shameless Transfer Hussies…

The San Diego Music Awards are on September 17, 2007. I voted for Transfer (because they love me, well okay they love everybody) and Anya Marina (cause she’s cute. I once saw her at this bar and I went all "oh my God you're Anya Marina, I saw you play once and you were so good." I stopped just shy of asking her to autograph my boob, thank God).

Until then, hit up the Acoustic Show on September 14 @ Clare De Lune from 7:00pm-12:30am. Lori and I went a while ago and guess what, it was really fun. A few quick tips:

1. if you get a seat, keep the seat.
2. Bring someone who is good at saving seats (preferably not Kid Rock as we all know where that leads).
3. Order some cake, they have good desserts there. Don’t worry if you have no idea who any one is (we didn’t) you’ll soon hear your favorites and they are bound to pop up again (It is San Diego after all).

Cutcha talks some good rock

Transfer is playing The Viper Room.

And since they rule (which they do) if you can be there (I'll be there in spirit) you should GO, GO, GO!

Because it's Transfer and they are gonna rock it like, well you're gonna wish you were OG fans like me and Lori. (Apparently after reading the email I realize Transfer loves more than just me. They get around... I'm okay with it, I can share.)

Hey Chappy Chaps -

Transfer is playing the Viper Room (L.A.) this Friday, Sept.14.
Here's the bill:BUILDING A BETTER SPACESHIP (headliner)

Kid Pebble talks Rock...

Way back on Sunday when all I could wait for was the MTV Video Music Awards (dissapointing) and the opening performance by Britney Spears (again, sadly... sheesh) I didn't expect to be rewinding the DVR going "hey, wait, did Kid Rock and Tommy Lee get into a fight and I missed it?" (Thank you Jamie Foxx).

Turns out they did.

And then Tommy Lee wrote some blog about Kid Pebble and how he don't know nothing about nothing, so there!

Of course Kid Rock took the high road, he does have an album coming out, yo, and he doesn't need to be yakking on and on about his beef with some "45 year old man" (Tommy Lee made it to 45! Congrats Tommy Lee...

Except that today he yakked on and on (on a San Diego station, 105.3, The Mikey Show) ... because you know, he doesn't need to be talking about it but he's got an album coming out in October and it's the best album ever and yeah, he punched Tommy Lee... so there.

After ALL the speculation here is the real reason that these two hard ass Rockers got into the bitch slap fest o' the century:

And then when I came back from the bathroom he’s pretty much sitting in my seat, I’m like that’s it. He’s sitting right next to it yea.

DO NOT mess with KID ROCK'S SEAT... he called place back, yo. PLACE BACK!

Dumping out the change jar... San Diego in the News

According to this incredibly ill timed article (considering my husband and I are counting our quarters so we can get a smoothie, yes a smoothie is NECESSARY) 5 million is the new one million.

Yep, you heard it here first folks, one million is like “oh really, you have one million dollars, how cute is that?”

From the article: “It can be said that the new $1 million is $5 million,” said Ajay Gupta, vice president, wealth management advisor at Merrill Lynch in San Diego. “We’ve seen a lot more $5 million net worth families than before.” (Who are they and are they adopting?!)

I don’t know if I’m going to take this guys word for it. Mostly because when I lived in San Diego I started to get just a little jaded about proper housing prices. I once stopped on by a neighborhood open house for a small, two bedroom Spanish style bungalow about four blocks from the beach… no parking. “It’s only 989,000 dollars,” I said. Pssh, any fool can scrape up 989,000… let me start counting my quarters.

Just another enabler: Best of San Diego 2007

Nobody wants me to nominate in Sign On San Diego’s Best of poll. Was just trying to do it here but it turns out that you need to “enable” cookies on your computer to do it. The website shook its finger at me and said “go enable your cookies and try again.”

Man, pushy website. SOOOO sorry that my cookies aren’t enabled enough for you. I try to live my life not being an enabler… hello co-dependency. All of a sudden cookies are sitting on a dirty couch in the crack den demanding to be included in every website search “gimme my search, give it to me! I need it!”

Anyway, like I said, I’m trying to participate in the nominations as if I’m some sort of expert on the Best Pick Up Spot (in case you’re wondering I’m gonna go with The West End on Turquoise Street because this one time…) I am however keenly aware of the Best Local Band (that would be THESE GUYS). The more you read, the more you will understand how obsessed Lori and I were/ are with Transfer. By the way, they love me.

Will work on my nominations and let you know. I'll probably post them later. Maybe you can be total copy cats and vote the same as me…. peer pressure… everyone likes Transfer, everybody!

You can nominate The Best Of San Diego from September 13 – September 27 (enable your cookies!).

Get away from your getaway...

As I am currently relegated to “visitor” status I find myself day dreaming about planning a quick get away to San Diego. Of course, it would probably mean I would never return, default on my rent and leave behind a house full of stuff I bought at Target and a couch that I expertly negotiated for at a going out of business furniture sale (I’m not leaving with a couch unless I’m leaving with a better deal!”). So I try to avoid actually setting foot on San Diego soil until said triumphant return. However, five years of San Diego living did give me one great San Diego hotel get away experience which I now pass on to you.

I give you… Paradise Point Resort and Spa.

Truth is I got a great deal on the room because (at the time) I was a San Diego resident. One thing about living in a city with some great get aways is last minute deals are readily found in various places. Periodically (if you are as addicted to the Internet as I am) you can check out hotels.com and find last minute “we still have these rooms and we’re hoping to get rid of them” deals, or you can call the hotel it self (especially on weeknights during off seasons) and get some pretty good deals.

Sure living in San Diego is a get away of itself but there are many, many upsides to this quick get away from your get away. The rooms are very nice. Going to the resort feels like entering another world, where you “get away” from the surrounding San Diego noise, traffic, hustle and bustle. It’s a tropical island with one goal in mind “hang out, relax, pretend like you’ve just gotten on your private jet and somehow ended up here.” The pool is amazing by the way, warm and beach like. The bay is close and the food… screw the food… hang out in your room and order the (slightly overpriced) room service. Experience the worlds greatest (and probably most expensive) hamburger, put your feet up and just… exhale. (There’s a few random hidden charges, parking, resort fee, don’t let them surprise you.)

It was just one night. At the time it was all I could spare/ afford, but I still dream about returning for another quick getaway. And just as quickly you can return back to San Diego… paradise not lost… just off to the side over there.

Ooo the website is pretty…

In (kind of, not really) other San Diego news

Okay, so Kyla Ebbert happened to flash the millions of people who actually watch The Today Show when her teeny, tiny skirt rode up allowing her to, ahem, "pull a Britney" (and not the other pulling a Britney where you get up and wander around the stage confused with little to no idea what the heck is going on) but just because national television got a peek at her crisp white underwear (Hey, at least she's wearing underwear!) doesn't mean she should have been almost kicked off a "Family Friendly" Southwest Airlines flight.

Of course the "well Paris Hilton can do it" defense Ebbert's mother takes is pretty offensive itself. So that clears it up, she's not pulling a Britney, she's pulling a Paris. And we all know Southwest can't argue with that one.

She was flying from San Diego to Tucson and apparently was dressed no differently then any other San Diego girl... which might be true, we never forget our underwear like some people.

From the Editor: Allow myself to introduce... myself.

Welcome to My San Diego blog, a blog dedicated to my (and your) San Diego. At this point we are in the beginnings of what will be (we hope) an exciting endevour into the blogosphere. My San Diego Blog wants to let everyone explore the world of all the different ways you can see/experience/taste/smell/love San Diego. We have many (planned) upcoming features which we'll be getting up and going as soon as people get off their butts and email me but I asked them to (I'm learning this Editor thing, gimme a break).

Some upcoming features:

My San Diego (whereby various community members tell you a little about their San Diego)

Rachelle's World (whereby newby San Diegan Rachelle tells us about moving/ living/ searching and learning in San Diego)

What San Diego wears (whereby we check out what real San Diegans are wearing for the various seasons)

What's in the shop window (whereby we feature a local boutique and what they are putting in their shop window, what's hot in fashion people?!)

San Diego is my city. And (truth be told) I never though it would be. I expected San Diego to be a stop over on my way to a "real city" like New Y ork or Los Angeles. I came to San Diego (on my own) about five years ago when I started Graduate School in creative writing. My first year as a San Diegan I was almost sure that I could actually make it in the Southern California world of full time flip flops and drizzle "rain storms." Despite my better Northern California girl judgment I was hooked.

San Diego (to me) has become a city like no nother (nothing can compare to the outdoor festivals, the beach, the neighborhoods, the weather). And then, luck of luck, my best friend Lori moved down from our small town and we shared an apartment together along with other various city adventures.

We started a blog. "Two Small Town Girls... in a big City" recounted our adventures out and about in San Diego (and a little about living on our own in a big city) and was named best of msn spaces and featured on msn.com. We were living the good life, the single in the city good life that featured a lot of this, this, this, and this.

And then I moved. I attempted to become a "grown up" which meant leaving San Diego for a new job in a new city. After a year away I am planning my triumphant return to SD. Many (many) things are different for me now but I have figured out one very important thing, San Diego is where it's at and ain't nobody gonna tell me any different.

You can love a city...

Welcome to My San Diego...
