Oh yeah, remember there was that whole slide thing in La Jolla?

Kinda feels like a million billion years ago (what with the fires and all) but The Great La Jolla Slide of 2007 did happen, homes were lost and people were left to ponder if it was that big of a deal. Well, good news for those that were wondering, Sign on San Diego is reporting that they are beginning restructuring and rebuilding in the La Jolla Slide area.

This morning, contractors will begin sinking dozens of steel-reinforced columns through the uppermost part of the slide, anchoring the dislodged earth into solid bedrock more than 70 feet below. The project is expected to take about a month and is a first step toward rebuilding Soledad Mountain Road, a major La Jolla thoroughfare. The 8,700 vehicles that use the road on a typical day have been detoured to the west since the Oct. 3 slide. Thirteen families remain displaced. Six homes on Soledad Mountain Road and Desert View Drive below are red-tagged as uninhabitable; seven more still cannot be entered without an escort.
