In a post a few months ago on his blog Cat Dirt Sez, San Diego defense attorney/music promoter Scott Pactor wrote: “If a hypothetical journalist asked me this question: ‘If you were looking to start a new blog, what subject matter would you pick and why?’ My answer would be ‘Illegal Immigration.’”

Wow, bloggers, take over, world, I will give you back your ad revenue so you can continue to put out publications that are really only a bunch of ads (magazine industry) for one billion dollars!

Holy Crap Bloggers are Taking Over the World

Saw this diddy on Perez Hilton today (the oh, so newsy perveyor of newsy news). The internet is going to overtake magazines in ad sales, in 2010. Still, bloggers are catching up to the scurrying heals of magazines. Page Six has bowed down to the hype and actually started its own blog. And now comese this news from Business Wire:


The San Diego Union-Tribune offered employee buyouts Monday in an effort to cut dozens of positions amounting to about 6 percent of its work force. The newspaper told employees that the move is a response to challenging industry conditions. It said it will consider layoffs if enough people don't leave voluntarily. An internal memo lists at least 83 targeted positions, including 43 in the newsroom. The newspaper has 1,422 employees. Other employees whose jobs were not targeted were also invited to apply for a buyout. Employees will get 1.25 weeks' pay for every six months of employment, up to one year of pay. They have until Dec. 12 to decide whether to apply and would leave the company by the end of this year.
