Mei Sheng, the male panda born four years ago at The San Diego Zoo left for China on Monday to join the panda breeding program. I totally remember this little guy, who will now be part of preserving his entire species, go Mei Sheng.
Mei Sheng translates to "Born in the USA". He was sent to the Wolong Nature Reserve for Giant Pandas as he was only "on loan" from the program. The program requires that all pandas born outside China return after the animals become mature.
Mei Sheng is the second giant panda born in the US and sent to China. The other was Hua Mei who was born in San Diego in 1999. She has given birth to three cubs over in China.
