3. Because it's a fairly easy way to review a year during the month that marks the end of the year thereby acknowledging said end to the year and at the same time quickly reviewing summarizing the year without, in fact, causing too much stress reading some long article about the year.

It's December and My San Diego Blog is getting list happy. Happy end of the year, 2008 is all about returns (not just the kind you do when you take back that really cute striped shirt tank top thing your Mom bought you), the kind of return back to where you belong.
