And now we have a formal formalization of the formality

From MSNBC because MSNBC is on the edge of their seats wondering if it's actually going to pass, can we do beer bongs on the beach during "breaks" from our conventions?!:

The City Council on Tuesday gave final approval to a one-year trial ban on drinking alcohol at city beaches. Not everyone supported the idea, but regardless, the ban takes effect in 30 days. Opponents said they want the issue to go before voters and plan to collect signatures for a referendum.

Bernie Wilson is Talking Shiz About the Chargers

Bernie. Bernie, Bernie, Bernie (Wilson). I know we live in a nice California beach town, therefore we should be those "chill, perma stoned" surfers, but Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, San Diego Chargers Fans (even those that are only fans when they think about it, not fans ALL the time) aren't really ones to take these words lightly.

Which best describes the San Diego Chargers, the most disappointing team in the AFC?

About the only thing the Chargers have going for them heading down the stretch is that they play in the anemic AFC West, where they now share the lead with the Denver Broncos at an unsightly 5-5.

Oversold or underachievers? Both?

Man, Bernie Wilson, The Chargers must have lost you some mucho money or something. Maybe the original copy read "What best decribes the San Diego Chargers, the team that lost me 5000 on the last game? I am so disapointed in them."

A SDSU Student Newspaper makes MSNBC.

San Diego State is coming under fire for a student run newspaper's anti gay/lesbian comments. From MSNBC:

The letter was printed in the "Koala," in the personal section where people write comments. It is described as an underground newspaper that seeks attention by being provocative. The alleged threat said, "If I ever see you with your (expletive) poodle again, I am going to jump kick it in the face." The profanity laced letter also called administrator Doug Case, who is a homosexual, "a flaming (blank)." It was written in the first person and was signed, "The Greek Community."

Doug Case is the coordinator for fraternity and sorority life, he is also a homosecual. He has worked for the university for 28 years. San Diego's gay and lesbian community will be hosting a town hall meeting Wednesday as well as a rally next month.

According to the article:

The editor who chose to print the personal is a 20-year-old journalism student at SDSU. He would only grant NBC 7/39 an interview if the station brought him a case of beer. The station does not pay for interviews.

Still trying not to be a hypocrite here (we'll call it non hypocrite Wednesday) but, somebody (who is willing to hypocratize) let that 20 year old kid know he can wipe that smirk off his face, he's made it to MSNBC with HATE speech, good for you journalistic integrity blah, blah, blah.

Here's a place to complain about your crappy neighbor, like the lady who writes letters about the length of your lawn two weeks after you had a baby

Not that it's ever happened to me.

New website alert, "Rotten Neighbors dot com" where concerned neighbors can write reviews and hints about their respective neighbors and neighborhoods. And of course, it was created by a San Diegan. From MSNBC:

The Web site, created by San Diego resident and unhappy neighbor Brant Walker, allows people to take nameless swipes and touts itself as a research tool for home buyers. Under "What We Believe," the site says, "If a bad neighbor exists, this information should be made freely and easily available to everyone," and "The more bad neighbors you add, the better the service."

I looked up my old residence in San Diego and got this diddy "whatever happened to that really cute fun girl that lived next door to me? She made the whole building worth paying the extra high rent. And her personal style, BAM!" (Or something like that.)

Alright beach drinkers, get it together, or get the ban.

And in the effort of reporting on both sides, here comes Safebeaches.org , organized in the hopes of passing an alcohol ban on all San Diego beaches. Of course, drinkers aren't helping any when they tend to spend their afternoons getting drunk and beating each other up. According to MSNBC:

As proposals for banning alcohol on San Diego beaches come before the City Council on Monday, disturbing videotape of an alcohol-fueled beating near the Ocean Beach Pier two months ago has surfaced in a criminal case. The sequence was recorded by Julie Klein, an Ocean Beach woman who was on the pier videotaping her son surfing when the beating occurred.

Klein is an activist with SafeBeaches.org, a coalition of some 500 beach area residents and merchants who favor a year-round alcohol ban on San Diego Beaches.

"We need to take charge like they did in the La Jolla Shores area (where a permanent alcohol ban has been in effect for 17 years)," Klein told NBC 7/39.

I know it's the "one bad apple" argument, but COME ON. One bad apple, and a girl wheeling a bike, and the lady that filmed it.

National News Roundup : Personal Stories from MSNBC

MSNBC has posted personal fire stories and accounts from all over Southern California. They are still adding stories on a consistant basis. Below is a reposted Oceanside account.

'Worst fires I've witnessed in my 30 years'

I work in San Diego and was astonished by the amount of smoke along my coastal ride south on the train to work. Many of my co-workers are not at work as we have at least of half of a dozen in just my department of 30 who have been evacuated from their homes. I left early due to uncertain transportation back to the train and when I arrived at my home in North San Diego County (near Fallbrook) I'm looking at smoke from fires up here as well. These are the worst fires I've witnessed in my 30 years living in California. While many people are affected, our emergency services were as prepared as best they could for this disaster.

National News Roundup: MSNBC is a little doomsday for my taste

The National News Roundup begins. Seems that they are all about the peril amidst the disaster. Those are the favorite words, peril, disaster. Oh, and "what went wrong" or "what could you have done better" or "who's fault is this?!" (Granted, they usually end by saying something like "it's nobody's fault, blame the wind. Oooooo Global Warming!).

First up, last nights MSNBC headline article! There's no end in sight! Worst disaster ever! WE-CAN'T-STOP-IT! (Uh, sheesh, what a way to tuck me in to bed.)

Unless the shrieking Santa Ana winds subside, and that’s not expected for at least another day, fire crews say they can do little more than try to wait it out and react — tamping out spot fires and chasing ribbons of airborne embers to keep new fires from flaring.

"This is just a terrible disaster; it's going to be one of the worst ever," he said, adding the total destruction would easily be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Santa Ana winds surpassed 100mph so usual tactics of "choking" the fire by surrounding on both sides wasn't working. They expect it to reach the coast before the end.
