OB Holiday Parade

The Ocean Beach Holiday Parade is this weekend! San Diego may not be known for their "winters" but we sure do know how to do the Holiday Thing. You could quite literally Holiday Parade around San Diego, visit Santa Claus when he's on surf vacation or when he's in his more "wow it's cold at 70 degrees" red suit.

Some event information for you:

OB Holiday Parad

SATURDAY (December 1)

5:05pm - 7:00pm.

Location: Ocean Beach (Newport Ave. at Ebers St.)

The parade kicks off with a 60-foot tree lighting ceremony hosted by Santa Claus and includes marching bands, floats, antique cars, and surfers. A small festival will accompany the parade featuring a craft fair and festive entertainment.

Alright beach drinkers, get it together, or get the ban.

And in the effort of reporting on both sides, here comes Safebeaches.org , organized in the hopes of passing an alcohol ban on all San Diego beaches. Of course, drinkers aren't helping any when they tend to spend their afternoons getting drunk and beating each other up. According to MSNBC:

As proposals for banning alcohol on San Diego beaches come before the City Council on Monday, disturbing videotape of an alcohol-fueled beating near the Ocean Beach Pier two months ago has surfaced in a criminal case. The sequence was recorded by Julie Klein, an Ocean Beach woman who was on the pier videotaping her son surfing when the beating occurred.

Klein is an activist with SafeBeaches.org, a coalition of some 500 beach area residents and merchants who favor a year-round alcohol ban on San Diego Beaches.

"We need to take charge like they did in the La Jolla Shores area (where a permanent alcohol ban has been in effect for 17 years)," Klein told NBC 7/39.

I know it's the "one bad apple" argument, but COME ON. One bad apple, and a girl wheeling a bike, and the lady that filmed it.

It's not just a PB thing. The No Drinking debate reaches the LA TIMES.

Not that we haven't discussed this before but San Diego is working out their "I don't like people drinking" issues on a very public scale. The LA times has even picked up on the story.

Virtually alone among Southern California cities, San Diego allows the consumption of beer and spirits on most of its beaches. But a booze-fueled Labor Day brawl at Pacific Beach has led to a call for San Diego to ban beach drinking altogether.

Now that San Diego can start getting "back to normal" after the fires, anticipation is looming about the "will we allow people to party on our beaches or will they have to keep the partying to stumbling around outside of bars?" debate.

Faulconer wants a total ban on alcohol on Mission, Pacific and Ocean beaches, as well as on the beaches of La Jolla, some of which already have a ban in place. Together, the beaches draw more than 24 million visitors a year.Mayor Jerry Sanders prefers a ban only on certain holidays. His proposal would also include nearby parks to keep drinkers from simply moving inland.

Visit here if you're interested in learning more about why you should be able to drink on the beach where they say "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." I don't know about all that, but I like my beaches nice and full of cute guys playing horseshoes, drinking beer.

Why don't we just outlaw fighting and being stupid on the beach? Oh wait, that's already a law? And people still fight and act stupid on the beach? Hmmm....

Fat Girl, Skinny City: Goth Girls do it Better

Fat Girl, Skinny City: Goth Girls do it Better.

Costume, check. Plans, check. Safe and sober driver, check. We're all ready to go for that Wednesday night they call Halloween. I ended up going with Little Red Riding Hood (no joke) as i was able to find a proper short red dress outfit thing that I didn't feel too over exposed in, yes I know that's the point of Halloween and all, but I still get a little nervous about showing all the bits and pieces before at least the first bottle of Sangria.

I've decided that Halloween is like a typical Friday night for a Goth Girl. Bare with me on this one. The more I notice the kind of costumes and outfits available to girls, the more I realize that they are just what Goth girls wear on say, a Friday night when they go out to dance around to heavy industrial music.

I've always admired Goth Girls myself, they tend to embrace their fleshy parts. They tend to show off that ample bust and wear the short skirts with the fishnet stockings, size be damned. Go out Goth spot and you'll see, size isn't the biggest issue, maybe Goth guys are too dark and deep to worry about the skinnny-ness of their women.

This is why I don't like the Emo/Hipster crowds (I'm being SOOOOOO stereotypical but I don't care, it's Halloween, I'm allowed to judge a book by it's slutty cover) because that just seems like a crowd where you can't be too thin, because depressed hip people just have to be thin.

Oh but for the Goth girls in their fishnets. I tell myself to live a little more Goth, especially on a Holiday that encourages it.

And besides, Goth has gone totally mainstream. Just the other day I was in a Halloween store and actually saw a "Goth Prince" decoration for the door. Hang up this uber cool Goth Prince with his sunglasses and bat wing necklace, nothing says "come to my house and ask for candy" then that.

*We'll be out in OB, I'll be the girl in the red with a Corona. Looking for the big bad wolf.*
