Ooo, ooo, this weekend is the Little Italy Precious Festa. Saturday would be the Gesso Italiano: Street Painting Event and Sunday is the festival with booths, vendors, entertainment and a chance to oogle the street art (the last time Lori and I went we got to watch our friend David working on a piece and we felt way cooler cause we KNEW an artist).
It might be sidewalk chalk but it ain't your 5 year old nephews stick figures (I'm sorry if I offend, I'm sure he's an artistic genius). If you check out this video (from SignOnSanDiego) you'll get just a peek at the meticulous design of the street art.
Saturday you can check out the artists at work or Sunday you can show up, look at the finished product and check out the street festival. Little Italy is much more then a place to get a good bowl of pasta, it's also an artist community (with some expensive housing). Come hungry, take lots of pictures (it's ripe for picture taking, you'll see everything from Mona Lisa recreations to original works of art).
*Parking can sometimes be a pain, so be prepared to hike it to Little Italy. Or, FYI, take the trolley.*
