Oh you're PB, I heard all about you from my friend Pete, from the other night, yeah, you were SO out of it PB!

PB wants a better reputation. Apparently the "we drink a lot and stagger around making in appropriately loud comments at 2 in the morning" reputation is getting old, like the 35 year old still hanging at the college joint (I totally knew that guy when I was in college, he was hilarious). According to NBC San Diego:

More than 20 bars are taking part in the "Who's Your DD" designated driver program. Servers and bartenders from places including PB Bar and Grill, Moondoggies and Cabo Cantina will now be asking groups who the designated driver is. That person will get free non-alcoholic beverages and free snacks.

I'm a PB-holic myself and find it much more than just a place to get drunk. In fact I hope to one day write a staggeringly poetic essay about why PB is the shiz (and that's the truth). Of course I lived in, ahem, "North PB" where everyone who lives there was always saying "We live in North PB, we're so much different than down there by Garnet." And I hardly got down the Garnet way on Friday or Saturday nights, because by the time I lived in PB I was old and liked my bar scene nice and line free. So maybe I'm not a true PBer, but I had my moments. Take St. Patrick's Day when I drank some green beer, smoked a hookah and got a tattoo all on Garnet Street. I am such a rebel.

I'm not knocking the program though, hopefully they have enough publicity to make it worth while as well as the bartenders who care enough to send the very best snacks and free drinks. I remember being the designated driver on SEVERAL occasions (we may have been party girls but we were SMART party girls and ALWAYS had a DD, which was usually me) and getting free soft drinks from the bartenders at our favorite place. I think they should make little buttons for people and the door you get your little "I'm the DD" button which guarantees you being helped first at the bar (which is a GODsend at PB bars), free drinks and snacks and free cut in line at the bathroom. A cute little button that if you get a certain number of them you can trade in for free stuff, like Chuck-e-cheese.

I'm such a dork. I just outed myself. Next post.
