A Girls Guide to Sports in San Diego: More Sports, Sports, Sports

I'm just gonna start calling this: A Girls Guide to Sports in San Diego. There, I started a new article feature, and I'll do it when I can and when I read something that makes sense to me. Today's big feature: Kosuke Fukudome, Japan baseball star, has said he will come to the US to play for the major league. This is a big deal (if you live in Chicago or San Diego) because he's a big deal, for some reason.

Here's what makes sense to me so far. Kosuke Fukudome is a baseball player from Japan who's causing a major stir in the US Major Leagues right now because he has informed his team (officially) that he will be leaving Japan and coming on over to the major leagues in America.

As far as offers go, he's mulling two really big ones, the first from The Chicago Cubs and the second from the San Diego Padres. Rumors, sports fans and bloggers are speculating but it looks like Fukudome is leaning toward the Chicago Cubs, though some are saying that the Padres are even more motivated to snag Fukudome now that their own free agent outfielder Milton Bradley (yes girls, that's his real name, same as the maker of Barbie. And YES there are plenty of jokes all over the internet, and headlines abound about how "The Toy Maker is doing this and that") is headed over to Texas to join the Rangers. Since the Padres have been left without an outfielder, they may be even more interested in snagging Japan's best outfielder which might explain why they have made the biggest offer in MLB history (close to 40 million, though there is some speculation that The Cubs are offering closer to 50 million, for THREE YEARS).

It looks good old San Diego is trying to sell their "Pacific Rim geography, natural beauty and less media fan-pressured culture" but Fukudome isn't biting, as his agent let people know he's less in it for the geography as he is for, say, the mucho money they are throwing at him trying to get him to come on over.

A decision is expected SOON, FYI. We'll see if any last minute offers float his way.

Things you can say so that you sound like you know what you're talking about when you head to the sports bar for happy hour:

"Man that Fukudome is gonna make bank!"
"Looks like the Rangers can take their TOY, Fukudome all the way!"
"Wowza, did you hear that Fukudome said he was coming to the US? It looks like Chicago has the lead at this point but you never know."
"I guess we might be heading down to Petco to check us out some Fukudome, if we're lucky. They might as well just rename it Fukudome Park. Hey if it was a dome it would be Fukudome dome!"

Alright, leave off that last one, we just went TOO far.
